The Importance of Good Logo Design

A logo is an essential element of your brand, it’s how you are recognised. A quick visual way for your company to be identified, great logos are recognisable in a blink.

A well designed logo should reflect the personality, style and sector of the business making sure it is well thought-out, simple and timeless. If a business is constantly changing their logo to match the current trend it will dilute the work put in to building the business, it’s image and the brand.

This being said we are not suggesting once you have a logo design it can never be altered. After long periods of time you are definitely going to want to do some touching up. The key to this is getting your logo right from the start so you will only need to fine tune it over time to avoid it from becoming stale.

Here are a few things to think about before creating a logo.

Is my logo flexible?
What do you do if your logo is red and the background you are putting it on is also red? We recommend creating variations for light and dark backgrounds, thinking about this at the beginning will help you in the long run.

Does my logo work in black and white?
When we design logos we always design in black and white first and then introduce the colour. We find that in the development stage colour can often distract from the actual logo elements. Traditionally it is always good to have a black and white version of your logo as you may come across limitations on print specifications i.e. newspapers.

Size matters
Make sure your logo works no matter its size, a logo has to look good and be legible at all sizes. Whether it’s on business cards, letterheads, billboards, websites or small promotional items; your logo should not lose definition.
